The Intel Atom is a CPU used in small, mobile devices because of its power efficiency. The chip is the smallest processor that Intel currently offers. Intel has just announced an addition to it's Atom Z5xx line. The current Atom Z5xx has processors varying from 1.1 to 1.86GHz. Those Atoms use a mere 2.2W of power, perfect for mobile devices, or any device that's trying to extend battery life. The new releases, the Atom Z550 and the Atom Z515 expand the pack. The Atom Z550 runs at 2GHz with a minuscule power draw of 2.4W or less. The Z515 is a different breed as it has a variable clock speed. The clock speed ranges between 800MHz and 1.33GHz. It's not going to handle heavy work, but for small mobile devices, it should provide a nice battery life with decent processing speed. Look for these new Atoms to begin appearing in devices soon.
