Western Digital still has the largest capacity drive out there with its GreenPower 2TB, though Samsung's new EcoGreen HDD manages to equal that model's 500GB per platter density while offering a still very respectable 1.5TB of space to play with. Using snappily named EcoTriangle technology (low-power, low-heat, low-noise), Samsung claims that the new drive manages 40% lower power consumption at idle and 45% lower in read/write operations than competing drives. Also available in 500GB and 1TB capacities, the EcoGreen series sports 16MB or 32MB cache and is shipping as of now to major OEMs. You should be able to grab a 1.5TB version for a recommended price of $149.
