Hacker Gets Four Years in the Slammer
John Schiefer, a security consultant turned hacker (oh the irony), was sentenced four years in prison for the infection of 250,000 PC's. The 27 year old man was one of eight who was arrested almost two years ago in an FBI operation. He was sentenced on March 4th in a Los Angeles federal court after pleading guilty to his accused cyber-crime's. Officials say that Schiefer implemented a botnet across the United States in an attempt to steal account information. After infecting the machines the malware relayed financial communications from PayPal and similar sites back to Schiefer. As well as jail time Schiefer must also pay $19,000 in damages to PayPal and other companies.
