Microsoft Breathes Easier in Europe

Category: General News

In 2004 the European Union ruled against Microsoft stating that it was monopolizing the software market. Third party developers felt that Microsoft was using its domination in the operating system market to edge into other software markets by bundling software such as media players into its software. The court not only fined Microsoft $794 million but also demanded that it provide technical documentation to allow third parties to develop software that would run more smoothly with Windows. In early 2008 Microsoft began publishing this information online free of charge allowing third parties to develop software better suited to run on Windows. The European Union today decided to cease continual oversight into Microsoft's daily affairs due to its recent good behavior as well as completion to their demands. They did however warn that Microsoft must stay on the straight and narrow by continually publishing and updating complete technical documents.
