Intel's smallest processor, the Atom, isn't just for netbooks anymore. Intel is rolling out four new models of this little chip to expand on its Z5xx lineup, but these chips are designed for phones not netbooks. This is the first time Intel is releasing a processor to the phone market, it will be used in devices that Intel calls "media phones". However not many phones are likely to adopt these new processors and will instead wait for their successors. The next version of the Atom, called Moorestown, will be a lower power chip than the Atoms current offerings which is sure to help battery life as well as overheating issues. Look for an Atom powered phone in the next month and the new and improved models by the end of the year.
