Today, AMD has released two new GPU's based on their new 40nm process technology: the HD 4830 and HD 4860. These feature a slew of top-notch features such as DirectX 10.1, audio over DisplayPort, MPEG-2 and H.264 acceleration, GDDR5 memory, and Crossfire X support, among others. More importantly, the 40nm technology provides a 50% increase in performance per watt. Power saving is bolstered by ATI PowerExpress and ATI Switchable Graphics Technology, allowing a second, integrated GPU to take over for everyday office tasks.
Both GPU's sport 640 stream processors with processing power at 832 Gflops. This will vary, because while some will come in GDDR5 flavors, there will also be DDR3 and GDDR3 versions. Notebooks with these mobile GPU's are upcoming, likely at CeBIT.
