With the introduction of the new P55 and P57 chipset from Intel, many consumers were hoping that it would support the new and upcoming SATA 3 specification, which can deliver speeds up to 6Gbps. Instead, support for SATA 2 will continue, even though it can only deliver speeds up to 3Gbps. Interestingly however, AMD does plan to support SATA 3 sometime in the first quarter of next year, even with Intel choosing not to. Trends may change with the different companies as far as sales numbers go, but most should realize that the jump to the new standard will not make too much of a difference in terms of actual performance.
