A Los Angeles woman has sued Microsoft over fees she was charged by Lenovo in order to downgrade from Vista to Windows XP. She claimed in her suit that, among other alleged wrong doing, Microsoft abused it monopoly position by requiring users to purchase computers with Vista preinstalled then pay additional fees to downgrade to XP. The complainant, Emma Alvarado, paid the fee to the computer maker, Lenovo, and then sued Microsoft over the $59.25 amount. Microsoft has responded by saying "Microsoft does not charge or receive any additional royalty if a customer exercises [downgrade] rights." It will certainly be interesting to see how this case progresses and whether a judge will even allow the case to proceed.
