The iPhone's App Store has given developers a platform that allows them to reach a global consumer base in a matter of weeks, but how easy is it to make money and how long will it be before you can quit the boring day job? Discussing the process with the one man development team behind the successful iShoot app, as well as a couple of British studios developing for the iPhone, the Guardian's Keith Stuart takes you through the steps you'll need to take (yes, you'll need to buy a Mac). While they may not necessarily seem "easy", a bit of previous programming experience and some persistence (or just more of the latter) has the potential to earn you some serious money. Ethan Nicholas, the developer of the iShoot app (in his spare time), quit his day job at Sun Microsystems after earning over $20,000 a day while at the top of the App Store charts.

I didn't see the mention of the $99 fee that you'll need to shell out (per year) to get your apps into the app store. Sure you can register as an iPhone Dev and download the SDK for free, but that'll only get you so far.
