Amazon released it next generation Kindle e-book reader today with more memory, improved battery life and additional ease-of-use features. The Kindle 2 received a memory boost from 180MB to 2GB, increasing its storage capacity from 200 books to 1,500. Along with the additional memory comes 25 percent better battery life. Amazon claims a single charge will give five days of use with wireless turned on and 2 weeks with wireless disabled. The Kindle 2 now has 16 shades of gray versus four shades on the original model. The latest version also includes a text-to-speech function called Read-to-Me so users can listen to electronic content using a male or female voice. Amazon is offering the Kindle 2 for $359US and is available for pre-order now with units expected to begin shipping February 24.
