Intel Ships New Atom Processor
Intel confirmed it has begun shipping a new version of its Atom processor to OEMs. The new processor, dubbed the N280, replaces the current N270 Atom and is coupled with Intel's GN40 chipset to provide improved video playback on netbooks. In addition to improved video, the N280 got a small speed boost to 1.66GHz, up from 1.6GHz, and a faster 667MHz front side bus. The new processor/chipset combination comes ahead of Nvidia's Ion platform that includes the Atom CPU along with a GeForce 9400m graphics processor.
