Google Earth is undoubtedly a useful tool for many, or just a fun way to waste an afternoon hunting down coincidentally humorous objects on the planet's surface. Expanding the project's imagery to include the world's oceans has been on the cards for a while now, but Google are expected to announce the addition of a large amount of underwater photography and seabed maps at an upcoming event in San Francisco. It is also expected that detailed environmental data, which will give insight into how climate change effects the oceans will accompany the new information. For those simply looking to have a bit of fun, it is likely users will also be able to take virtual tours of famous diving spots around the globe. I imagine virtual sharks are considerably less intimidating too.
