Samsung has announced the world's first 4Gb (that's Gigabit) DDR3 DRAM chip, which should lead to the production of 32GB memory modules (though don't expect to find them in desktops any time soon). The new chips are built on a 50nm process and running at 1.35v, will consume 40% less energy than previous models. The first modules using the new chips will be 16GB RDIMMs for servers, 8GB DIMM modules for desktops and 8GB SO-DIMMs for laptops. When exactly we can expect to see them in the wild was not mentioned, along with how much cash you'll need to lay down to get your hands on them.
