On Tuesday Apple released the 2.2.1 update for the iPhone and iPod Touch. While the official changes didn't amount to much and didn't add any of those highly requested features, I was happy for the Safari stability update. Today Wired is reporting that the 2.2.1 updated had an extra "feature" that breaks Yellowsnow. Yellowsnow is a hack by the iPhone Dev-Team that unlocks the iPhone from it's carrier (i.e. AT&T) and allows you to drop in a SIM card from any other provider.
This really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, as Apple has done similar tricks in the past in order to protect the exclusivity of the iPhone with various carriers. Something I wonder if it wasn't a requirement in the contract with AT&T and others. Personally, I'm too chicken to do anything like this with mine.
