After reports of Seagate hard drives failing or freezing momentarily, Seagate published updated firmware last Friday, only to pull the firmware from its web site the following Monday when it was found the new firmware rendered some 500GB drives useless. Seagate has hopefully fixed those issues with a new firmware update out today. The firmware will not fix drives that were previously 'bricked' however. While most users will not be affected by this problem, you can check Seagate's knowledge base to see if your drive is potentially affected. If you are one of those whose drive froze or was killed by the previous firmware update Seagate is offering free data recovery services.
