Despite the U.S. consumer home entertainment rental and sell-through market value dropping 5% in 2008, according to the Digital Entertainment Group (DEG), the Blu-ray Disc market actually increased nearly 22%. In 2008, the U.S. Blu-ray Disc market was worth $750 million, compared to just $270 million in 2007. You can bet that Blu-ray winning the format battle against HD DVD in the beginning of 2008 had a huge impact on the increase.
