Microsoft has already allowed Windows XP to be installed on netbooks and low cost laptops until 2010, but the cut off date for PC makers to get new licenses for other purposes was due to be 31st Jan 2009. Microsoft has slackened this once again (XP was originally scheduled to disappear at the beginning of 2008), allowing resellers and makers to order new licenses up until 31st of Jan, but can take delivery at any time up to the 30th of May. Windows Vista, the successor to XP first went on sale in 2007, yet the older operating system continues hang on, with customer preference being a driving factor.
