Unusual Malware Targeting Firefox Users

Researchers at security firm BitDefender have identified a unique piece of malware that collects online banking information but only targets users of Mozilla's Firefox browser. The malware makes use of JavaScript to identify over 100 banking and money-related websites worldwide. When a user visits one of those sites it grabs login and password information and sends the information back to a Russian server. With Firefox having just hit 20 percent market share, it is becoming a more attractive target as cyber-criminals search for new venues of attack. Users can become infected either by a drive-by download or by being tricked into downloading the software. Once on a user's PC, it sits in Firefox's add-ons folder and runs when Firefox is launched.
