Hitachi and Intel Team Up For SSDs

Hitachi, known for its production of hard disks for both consumers and businesses, will team up with Intel, who is known mainly for its processors, for solid-state drive development and manufacturing. The two companies plan to distribute Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) drives, as well as Fibre Channel (FC) drives. Both Intel and Hitachi are stating that the solid-state drives are only meant to compliment traditional magnetic hard disk drives, not replace them all together. Hitachi will still sell regular hard drives along with the new SSDs that it releases. The Serial Attached SCSI drives, along with the Fibre Channel drives, should be available sometime in the early part of 2010.
