I-O Data is unveiling a new hard drive that is meant to compete with the recent Seagate 1.5TB HDD, which has had numerous reported issues of freeze ups. Though Seagate is providing a firmware fix, I-O Data is hoping to steal some of the high capacity hard drive market that is now available because of the problem. The new drive runs at 7,200RPM and is connected through SATA. Many consumers will be turned off by the price though, since the drive is approximately $315, while Seagate’s drive currently sells for $120. Though the initial freeze up problem with the drive from Seagate has turned away some consumers, sales will probably be higher for it than the new I-O Data drive, purely due to price.
