GTA IV (PC) to Use SecuROM 7 Copy Protection

When GTA IV for the PC arrives in early December, it will come equipped with the controversial SecuROM 7 copy protection software. This is the same DRM software that created such a backlash with Electronic Arts Spore software, forcing EA to eventually relax the number of times the software could be installed. Consumers hate the DRM software so much that EA is now facing several lawsuits over its implementation of SecuROM. Perhaps Rockstar Games, publisher of the Grand Theft Auto series, has taken a few lessons from that situation and has said there will be no limit on the number of times you can install the software, nor will it limit the number of PCs on which you can install the game. However, you will have to activate the game online and have Disc 1 in your optical drive in order to play the game. The DRM will also be included in versions downloaded through Steam. Rockstar also indicated you will not be able to completely remove SecuROM as some traces will still remain.

Ahh great. Though at least it seemed to just be an online activation and having the disc in the drive, which I can live with.
