AMD gave a presentation to to a group of journalists today to show off it forthcoming Phenom II processors based on the Deneb core. Central to the presentation was just how much headroom, or overclocking ability, these new processors will have. With the top models in the lineup to be released at 3.0GHz, AMD says in the right hands these chips have the potential to go a lot higher. With rumors of the CPUs being able to hit 4GHz on air cooling, speculation has been that AMD will be able to counter Intel and its Core i7 if Intel decides to release faster processors next year. To prove their point, AMD execs demoed a Phenom II hitting 5GHz on dry ice during today's presentation.
