Video games have carried ratings issued by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) for quite some time now. With the now familiar 'E' for everyone, 'T' for teens (13 and older), 'M' for mature themes (ages 17+) and the self-explanatory AO (adults only) ratings, consumers could base their purchasing decisions based on the age-appropriate categories but had little additional information to go on. While kids probably know all about a game, even before it's released, parents had little more to go on than the single-letter classification. Starting today the ESRB will provide summaries of game titles they rate that provide objective insight into the reason for a game's rating. In addition to new games, the ESRB will provide summaries for games going back to July 1 of this year. You can find these summaries on the main ESRB site.
