For the past two years or more, consumers have been buying the Wii game console faster than Nintendo could manufacture them, causing mass shortages. This year however, Nintendo plans to supply almost 4 millions units to meet the demand that will occur this holiday season. Worldwide, the company stated that it is now producing 2.4 million Wii game consoles a month, compared to the 1.6 million produced last year. Company president Reggie Fils-Aime expressed in an interview that they have made a 33 percent increase in manufacturing. Since the launch of the console in 2006, an estimated total of 34 million units worldwide have been sold.
