When broadband isn't enough, Comcast is rolling out a new level of service it calls 'wideband' based on the latest DOCIS 3.0 standard. For residential customers this will come in two flavors called Ultra and  Extreme 50. Ultra users will get 22 Mbits/s downloads and 5 Mbits/s of upload speeds for $62.95 per month. Extreme 50 users will get 50Mbits/sec down and  up to 10 Mbits/s uploads for $139.95 per month. Existing customers will see their service speeds increase to 12 Mbits/s for downloads and 2 MBits/s for uploads or 16 MBits/s for downloads, 2 Mbits/s uploads depending on their current level of service. It looks as if customers in the Boston, New Jersey and some areas of Philadelphia will be the first to get the new speeds.
