Thecus Introduces 7-Bay NAS Server
When it comes to storage it seems users manage to expand their needs to whatever space is available. With the increasing popularity of digital media in the form of photographs and video, terabyte drives don't seem all that unreasonable any more. It you're working in an environment where that storage space needs to be shared among multiple users or you want to make the data available to different computers across the network, then a network attached storage (NAS) appliance is a great solution. Thecus has been a premier player in the home and small office market with its products and has solutions ranging from dual-drive direct connect enclosures up to 5-bay NAS appliances for the small business segment. Today Thecus announced its latest product in the N7700 NAS tower offering a whopping 7TB of storage. Geared more toward the enterprise and workgroup markets, the N7700 has advanced features such as support for iSCSI initiators and multiple RAID levels including RAID 0, 1, 5,6,10, and JBOD. With RAID expansion and RAID level migration, users can start out small and expand their storage capacity as their needs increase. Powered by an Intel Celeron M 1.86GHz processor and a full gigabyte of DDR memory these units can support multiple connections without sacrificing speed. They can be stacked and daisy-chained with an additional five units if 7TB just isn't enough. Pricing is expected to come in at $1,099US and the units should be available by the end of October.
