A federal grand jury returned an indictment against a University of Tennessee student for allegedly hacking into the Yahoo email account of Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin. The indictment was issued on Tuesday and the suspect, David Kernell, turned himself into the court today. Kernell appeared in court in handcuffs and shackles where he plead not guilty. The court released the student without requiring him to post bond but imposed several restrictions including prohibiting him to leave eastern Tennessee without the court's permission, he is prohibited from possessing a computer but can access email and use the Internet for class work. The court set the trail date for December 16. If convicted, Kernell could face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
