Google Details Sustainable Data Centers

The information made available by Google about its data centers may be a little on the vague side, but what it does illustrate is how it employs strategies for reducing energy consumption and conserving other resources. A lot of it is probably what would be thought of as common sense, with practises such as carefully thought out fan placement and avoiding the use of graphics chips. Other measures go a little further, such as employing waste water to cool data centers and re-purposing any retired equipment. Google claims that it saves $30 per server/ per year by compared to its competitors by adopting these measures, as well as reducing the environmental impact of its data centers.
