AMD to Release Nine 45nm Processors in First Wave
AMD is counting on its Shanghai processors to help regain some of the server market share it gave up to Intel after the problems it encountered in getting the Barcelona Opterons to market. In the first wave, AMD is expected to release nine 45nm processors targeted at the mid-range server market with core clock speeds ranging from 2.3- to 2.7GHz. The mix will include four processors for the 8-way 8000 series and five more in the 2-way 2000 series. The average power consumption for the first round of processor looks to be around 75 watts with lower power 55-watt processor due in January.
