Thief Uses Decoys Recruited on Craigslist
This is definitely one for the books. A thief pulled off an armored car heist in Monroe, Washington using decoys recruited on Craigslist, a can of pepper spray and an inner tube. Earlier this week, a man dressed as a construction worker in a blue shirt complete with yellow vest, safety goggles and a respirator mask approached an armed guard as money was being unloaded outside a bank. The thief disabled the guard with pepper spray, grabbed a bag of money and took off. To help in his escape someone, apparently the thief, had placed an ad on Craigslist for road maintenance workers at $28.50/hour. The recruits were asked to meet near the bank wearing, you guessed it, a yellow safety vest, goggles, a respirator mask and a blue shirt. When police responded to the robbery they found lots of people meeting the suspect's description because 12 workers responded to the ad. So where does the inner tube come in? That was the getaway 'vehicle'. The thief hopped on the inner tube and floated down a creek toward the Skykomish River and made good his escape. The police are still looking for the real suspect and hope to track him through the Craigslist posting.
