Steve Fossett Plane Wreckage Located
A light plane with the same tail number as the one last flown by adventurer and millionaire Steve Fossett has been discovered in a remote area of the Inyo National Forest. Fosset was last seen September 3, 2007 after he took off in a light plane from a ranch in Nevada for what was supposed to be a brief flight. The ensuing search for Fosset, the largest ever in U.S. history, failed to turn up anything. Earlier this week, a hiker discovered several items belonging to Fossett including several $100 bills, his FAA-issued pilot's license and some clothing. That discovery triggered a new search in the area where the items were found. Although the area had been covered in the original search, the rugged terrain and dense forest make spotting any wreckage very difficult. The remains of Mr. Fossett have been not been located yet, but searchers plan to comb the area on foot today with 50 searchers and five cadaver dogs. Time is of the essence because the area is located at over 10,000 ft above sea level and it expected to get its first snowfall of the season at any time.
