Widespread Use of Internet Manipulation and Cyber-warfare

Although countries like US and India don't employ it, it has been estimated that more than 40 countries block and/or filter websites containing specific content according to a 2007 report by the OpenNet Initiative. However, not all of this filtering is detrimental to society. For example, the United Kingdom and some other European countries filter out child pornography and content that glorifies terrorism. Sadly enough, on the other end of the spectrum, a Georgian website used to unite supporters for the Russian-Georgian conflict, has been removed as a casualty of the cyber warfare the two countries are experiencing. In Iran, where restrictions are rampant, tech-savy users are overcoming this wall of ignorance by using the "Freedom House's Gozaar" website. This open forum allows users to discuss issues without restriction and its domain is changed once a week to refrain from being taken down by the man.
