Leaked Details On AMD's Fusion Chip
Coming on the heels of news about Intel's Larabee graphics solution, we've come across some early info on AMD's CPU/GPU combo chip, Fusion. Expected to debut in H2 2009, Fusion is shaping up to contain a dual-core Phenom CPU and a next-gen RV800 graphics chip. This complete solution is expected to debut as a 40nm chip, but will shrink to 32nm in the early part of 2010 - not too long after Intel goes 32nm. On the graphics front, Fusion's RV800 GPU will be a lower-end part, but will be DX 10.1 compliant, and we can assume that it will feature UVD technology, which will enable hardware decoding of MPEG-2, VC-1, and H.264 content when paired with supported software.
