Seagate Announce 1.5TB Hard Drive
Since the first 1TB hard drives started appearing over a year ago, the capacity ceiling for drives has remained at that height. Today Seagate lifted the bar, and considerably at that. The new Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB adds another 500GB throught the use of four platters, which pushes aereal density up above what is currenty found on 3 platter 1TB drives. The regular features are there, 7,200rpm, 3Gbps interface and one would assume 32MB of cache. Seagate also took the opportunity to announce new 500GB 2.5" inch drives under its Momentus branding. The new 1.5TB drives will no doubt be welcome news for those with a voracious appetite for a wide variety of media (the most obvious of which being high definition video), and should be seeing initial shipments come August.
