Samsung announced its 128GB solid state drive back in January, and has now announced that the drives have now gone into volume production. They use multi-level cell technology, which is cheaper than the alternative single-level cell, but Samsung are claiming read speeds of 90MB/s and write speeds of 70MB/s, which competes in performance terms. Samsung are also touting the long life and low power consumption (0.5 watts active and 0.2 watts standby) of the drives. A quote from the Samsung Semiconductor VP of marketing also notes "more attractive pricing", but actual pricing figures for the drives aren't mentioned. I would suspect they still won't be low enough for the wide spread adoption that many people are hoping for.
