Nevada's licensed brothels are feeling the effects of higher gas prices along with the rest of the economy. That is especially true for those businesses that are located near interstates that cater mostly to long-haul truck drivers. With U.S. diesel prices averaging around $4.70 per gallon, truckers are finding less in their wallets for discretionary spending on items such as entertainment, according to the Nevada Brothel Owners' Association. Some personal services institutions are reporting business is down as much as 25 percent from the same time last year. More enterprising businesses are offering incentives such as gas cards, monthly discounts and special incentives for customers showing up with government stimulus checks. In another sign of how the economic downturn is affecting the business, even as demand has fallen off, supply has increased as more women are becoming interested in joining Nevada's personal services industry.
