The Entertainment Merchants Association recently released its annual report, and the results were great for the gaming industry. According to the report, the U.S. retail gaming industry took in $18.85 billion in 2007, nearly twice as much as the record-setting U.S. box office total of $9.6 billion. Gaming sales surpassing box office sales is nothing new, but what is surprising is that it also surpassed DVD sales, reportedly around $16 billion. Though the $18.85 billion pales in comparison to the total movie industry revenues of over $33 billion, one must remember the game sales does not include any digital purchases, like via Valve's Steam platform, or from Blizzard's millions of World of Warcraft subscribers.
