It seems that Activision was unimpressed by the incredible success of Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, as they have enlisted a new developer to take the game back in time for its fifth installment. Call of Duty: World at War has just been announced, and it seems that Activision is just barely making good on its promise to bring the franchise to a new battle theater, as most of the action will be taking place in the Pacific, thankfully granting gamers a reprieve from the uber played-out European theater. Oh wait, I spoke too soon - gamers will again be treated to battle in Germany, with a level depicting the Russian advance on the German capitol. New developer Treyarch (COD 2: Big Red One, COD 3) will be using Infinity Ward's COD 4 engine, so we know the gameplay and graphics should be solid. Rumors have COD: WaW out by the end of March 2009, with releases expected for all major gaming platforms. I'm calling BS on Activision here - the WWII theme is as dead as the Nazi leader that started the war, and the modern battlefields and weaponry were just the adrenaline shot that the franchise needed. Boooo!
