By now we should all know the importance of the power supply in a self built system (if you don't, then where have you been?). Now unlike some other components you would find in your system, the equipment required to thoroughly review a power supply exceeds that of a simple test platform with a motherboard, CPU and other items. The fact is that most systems won't test a power supply to its limits, and it is probable that the power supply you have in your own system has never been taken past half of its maximum load. This means the average user will have no idea of the quality of the PSU they own until they do start putting some strain on it. The new PSU test methodology at OCC aims to test aspects of a power supply that would be impossible with a regular system, therefore making it far easier to tell the difference between what is great and what is a lemon. Be sure to read the full article for details. You can discuss the new methodology in the forum.
