Big Brown was attempting to become the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win the Triple Crown. After breezing through the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, Big Brown was the overwhelming favorite to win the Belmont Stakes this evening, with 1-4 odds at racetime. But instead of winning the Triple Crown, Big Brown became the 11th horse since Affirmed to win the first two races, only to fall short in the final and hardest one. Big Brown did make history though, just not the kind people hoped for; he became the first Triple Crown hopeful to finish dead last in the Belmont Stakes after he eased up at the end. Whether it was the sweltering 90 degree heat or just the fact that it's always been the hardest race to win, we may never know. But what we do know, is Da'Tara is the winner of the 140th Belmont Stakes.
