Some users are reporting that Windows XP SP3 renders their network cards useless and that their network connection settings disappeared from Windows after updating to the latest service pack. The issue seemingly affects mostly users of Symantec’s Norton consumer security products. Users reported seeing large numbers of corrupted entries in the Windows Registry in a section used by Symantec products. Some users said they found literally thousands of entries, making manual cleanup a difficult, if not impossible task. In a battle of corporate denial ping pong, neither Microsoft nor Symantec immediately owned up to the problem. Symantec said it was related to SP3 and was quick to point other problems caused by the service pack. Microsoft’s response was limited to a standard reply for users to contact customer support.
