New Family of ultra-small Intel chips called 'Atom'
The family name for the Diamondville chips (
News Post)has been announced, the 'Atom' series of chips. Two chips will carry this name. One was formerly known as Silverthorne and will be a mobile processor designed for the next generation of low-power mobile internet devices. This processor features a new power state, which allows the processor to essentially shut off in between tasks, to achieve a maximum power savings potential. The Menlow chips will also be rebranded to Centrino Atom, but these chips will feature integrated graphics, integrated wireless radio and a new, thinner and lighter design.
