There has been talk of a version of Firefox for mobile phones before now, but it seems Mozilla is on the way to getting Firefox onto Linux and Windows Mobile based devices by the end of the year. Nokia has been one of the major supporters of Mozilla, collaborating on coding and running a Gecko based browser on its N800 and N810 tablet phones. Of course a mobile version of Firefox would carry on the tradtion of its desktop counterpart by being available at no cost, but some carriers may be a little uncomfortable with a free browser that would allow users to bypass some of its own paid for applications and services. With Apple's iPhone and Safari browser implementation, people have seen improvements to how the web can be accessed on mobile devices. Mozilla think there is still room for improvement and that they are the ones to bring it. With the popularity of desktop Firefox, I'm sure many consumers would welcome the option of being able to install it on their phone.
