An End To Facebook Application Spam?Category: Internet, Software

If you're a member of Facebook you probably already know what I'm talking about. One of your friends sends you an invite to an application, which when added presents you with a page encouraging you to "invite x amount of friends" to use the application fully or simply gives you no other option but to send invites. It's a pretty underhanded way for developers to try and get a popular app out there and Facebook administrators have obviously noticed this trend as well. Facebook recently updated its platform policy to include specifics on what applications can and can't do with regards to forcing invites. Apparently the developers of such applications haven't taken enough notice to this, as it seems Facebook recently sent out a mailing to all offending developers informing them of a temporary restriction on invites for their application, whilst reiterating the updated policy.
Hopefully now we will see a halt to the proliferation of what could be termed 'throw-away' applications imposing themselves on Facebook members. Anything that discourages lazy developing of applications is bound to be better for the Facebook platform in the longer term as well.
