The Inquirer - Ever wonder why it is so easy to get addicted to video games? I often find myself playing for hours upon hours nonstop without a care for anything in the world, the real world that is. As for things that go on in the game I sometimes get so in depth with the "game-world" that I often forget to eat or sleep. A recent study from Stanford University at the School of Medicine may be able to shed some light on the subject. The research has concluded that women have an easier time walking away from video games than men do, to men video games can be more addicting than crack cocaine. Whilst playing the games the mesocorticolimbic centre of both male and female participants were triggered, but the male participants MC was considerably more active. The also noted that in males the orbitofrontal cortex, the nucleus accumbens and the amygdala semed to be hyperfunctioning during times of reward. It is believed that winning or achieving certain goals in video game emulates the territorial instinct in males.
