Fox News - As of the 31st of January 2008, China will ban online video sharing sites, such as YouTube. Only government owned or government controlled video sharing sites will be available to the Chinese public, as these sites now need a special permit. "Those who provide Internet video services should insist on serving the people, serve socialism ... and abide by the moral code of socialism" is the official reason as to why these sites need to be banned. China, being the second largest internet audience (164 million people with internet access), is a rapidly growing internet market. Adhering to these rules would be an extremely hard task for YouTube, as 10 hours of video material, covering various topics, are uploaded to YouTube every minute.
