Multimedia sharing off limits on NAS drive

"Anywhere, Anytime Access". "Share Photos and Files" proclaims Western Digital's web site touting its My Book World Edition NAS device.  The benefit of their product, beyond just being used as an external backup device, is the ability to share and access your data anywhere, anytime, even when your local computer is off.  But there is a Gotcha! associated with this drive that has recently come to light - you can't share audio and video multimedia files on this drive.  Access to multimedia files is restricted to the primary user  registered on WD Anywhere Access, the remote client embedded in the device.
