The transistor turns 60

Category: General News

c|net - I've come across an article outlining the 60th birthday of the transistor. On December 16, the transistor will hit the big 6-0. Before this day, computers could weigh up to 28 tons and consume up to 270,000 watts of electricity, and could process 5000 operations per second. To compare, just a single rack of IBM's current Blue Gene/P can churn out 13.9 Trillion operations per second, and it can be expanded to over 200 racks. With the 60th birthday of the transistor quickly approaching, we at the staff of OCC, as well as every piece of electronic equipment in our houses, would like to congratulate you.
