Computer World - HP has begun taking pre-orders for its new MedaSmart server. the first OEM to utilize Microsoft's new Windows Home Server software. The server are priced to ship with 500GB hard drives for $599, and 1TB hard drivs for $749. Windows Home Server provides automatic backup of data, print and file sharing, and remote web-based access for up to 10 computers in a local network. Microsoft has put a lot of emphasis on the automatic backup feature, stressing the fact that consumers can not afford to lose their precious data such as family and vacation pictures. HP had initially delayed their adoption of the operating system due to router configuration issues with it, and conflicts with HP's network file sharing software that will come bundled with the system. The operating system is geared towards homes with multiple computers and printers (which already accompanies a large percentage of the market), and they will also offer a system builder edition.
