PC World - Apple issued an update today to fix its QuickTime media player, fixing at least seven critical security bugs. The QuickTime 7.3 update, released today, fixes at least seven flaws in the media player software. Apple said, six of the bugs could allow an attacker to take over a PC. In order to do this, the attacker would first have to trick someone into viewing a maliciously crafted movie or image file. Another flaw lies in QuickTime's Java, and could be used to get sensitive information or to run Java applets with elevated privileges, Apple said. The patches issued today are for Mac OS X, as well as Windows Vista and XP.
